Huan Zhong — Nature Follows Abstraction
One notable exhibition held at the KWM Art Center is "Huan Zhong — Nature Follows Abstraction." This exhibition draws inspiration from the philosophical concept of "Huan Zhong," which was originated by the ancient Chinese philosopher Zhuang Zi in the 4th century BC. The term "Huan Zhong" refers to the space within a circle, symbolizing the abstract and intangible aspects of reality as opposed to the physical world represented by the circle itself.
The exhibition features thirteen artists from around the world, presenting diverse works that convey the theme through various mediums. Among the standout pieces is "The Last Egg" by artist Zhao Yao. The artwork consists of nine ceramic jars that are fractured to resemble broken eggshells, symbolizing the duality of the natural self and the rational self within modern individuals. Another notable work is "Eclipse" by Dutch artist Henny van Nistelrooy, inspired by solar and lunar eclipses, which features overlapping rugs handmade by skilled craftsmen in Nepal.
Ren Hang's Photographic Works
KWM Art Center has also exhibited works by the late Chinese photographer Ren Hang, known for his unique approach to contemporary Chinese art. Ren Hang's photography focused on themes of poetic beauty and abstraction, often exploring the human form. His images were part of an exhibition titled "Beauty without Beards," which opened in January 2017 at KWM Art Center, shortly before the artist's untimely death.
